Somatics and Shruti - an embodied deep listening experience
Somatics and Shruti - an embodied deep listening experience
Saturday 8th June - 10am - 12pm
In this unique workshop you will be guided through various somatic movement sequences accompanied by live improvised sounds
The movement sequences are predominantly floor based
Somatic movement practices give equal value to internal experience, external movements, self observation and instinct
Paula will guide you through exercises that are influenced by techniques drawn from Body Mind Centering, Feldenkrais, developmental movement and non habitual movement.
Enjoyment of the body is key to this approach with freedom to choose how to move. Somatic grounded movements have been linked with self healing and the curation a deep sense of inner peace
The last 30 minutes of the session is focused on guided relaxation, easeful breathing, deep rest and inner listening
The Shruti box is an Indian instrument used to make musical drone sounds. Drones are sustained notes often used to accompany an instrument or voice, meditation or chanting. Trish will combine wooden flute and shruti box into a magical soundscape. The mechanical breath of the shruti box, produced by bellows and reeds, creates a rich and complex drone sound. It interacts with the breath of the wooden flute to make an unearthly, harmonically rich sound that fills the space.
