Authors Past and Present
Young authors were inspired by the legacy of writer Diana Ross author of The Little Red Engine and many other works.
Children were able to examine primary sources from the authors family such as original manuscripts and work that she wrote as a child. Diana was Dry Water Frances Andersons' grandmother.
Children were able to see that the process of writing is dependent on editing, making mistakes and refining. This gave them confidence to write their own work which focused on the joy of writing with the freedom of an author rather than within the often limiting framework and boundaries of the National Curriculum.
Children spent hours writing purposefully and with passion. Their work was reviewed by the daughter of Diana Ross and a series of highly commended awards and one overall award was presented to the children.
