Fascinating and stimulating conversation with Josie Dunne of Funky Needlework in Amble.
Josie is an incredibly gifted textile artist and her workshop in Amble is full of colour, texture and creative enquiry. All sorts of people pass through: taking part in workshops, pursuing their own projects, making textile statements, remembering and enlivening old traditions, using their skills with pattern, colour and design to re-invent and reimagine.
Compelling conversations about how this level of skill and artistry can be so often dismissed as a “women’s hobby” or just “craft”.
It was incredibly moving to hold cushion covers beautifully embroidered by two of Josie’s great aunts , a contemplation of time, skill and craftswomanship. The attention and aesthetic awareness in every stitch.
